The summit’s purpose is to allow faculty to engage with colleagues and other professionals from surrounding public and private institutions about the retention and success of students enrolled at UTM.
Dr. Carver, UTM chancellor, along with UTM Provost Dr. Philip Cavalier, helped establish and coordinate the summit as a
“When I first got here, Dr. Carver approached me about bringing officials from universities all around this region together to talk about what they’re doing and what we’re doing in terms of retention to ensure out students are succeeding,” Cavalier said in regards to what prompted the summit.
UTM will host Carver, Executive Director of the Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) Mike Krause, and CEO of The Gardner Institute Dr. John Gardner as the featured guest speakers during the summit.
Gardner will lead a pre-summit workshop on May 7, featuring topics on senior institutional leaders and their role in leading retention efforts. A dinner and reception will follow in the Champions Club of the Skyhawk Football Building.
All chancellors, presidents and chief officers from academic and student affairs at UTM, as well as the other institutions attending the summit, are invited to attend.
The main conference will consist of presentations from the three featured speakers on success and retention efforts.
Following the speakers, attendees are invited to participate in discussion sessions led by institutional leaders from Tennessee, Alabama, Arkansas and Illinois based on common regional challenges, student support and effective use of data.
Check-in for the summit begins at 8 a.m.
Breakfast and lunch will be provided for the event.
The cost of the summit is $50 to attend, however, UTM employees interested in attending will have the registration fee waived.
Registration is open until April 15.
