Skyhawk men and women track and field finish 7th and 9th respectively in OVC championship

The Skyhawk men and women landed on the podium in several categories on their way to 7th and 9th place in the OVC Indoor Championship. 

Leading the way for the Skyhawks was the Men’s distance medley relay team of senior Bradey Millikin, sophomore Angus Monro, senior Samir Smith and sophomore David Stukey, who ran a school record 9:59.59 on their way to second place overall, collecting eight points. 

Next, the Women’s distance medley relay team of freshman Reese Settle, junior Maggie Roy, graduate Janay Chapman and senior Rita Eimer, who ran 12:04.33 on their way to another second-place finish and another eight points. 

The best solo finish was junior Maggie Roy, who landed her second-place finish in the mile run with a time of 5:00.88, which earned the Skyhawks eight points once again. 

Two Skyhawks landed in fourth place to earn five points apiece. That included junior Ja’Kobe Ward with a time of 8.25 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles and junior JaDerrika Welch-Fields with a 1.65-meter leap in the high jump. 

Two Skyhawks also claimed fifth-place finishes to earn four points apiece. That included sophomore Angus Monro, who ran a 4:15.68 in the men’s mile and senior Rita Eimer, who ran a 2:16.75 in the women’s 800-meter. 

Freshman Meg Wiginton, senior Chadwick Stewart, freshman Tristen Bough, freshman Eliana Oquendo, sophomore David Stukey, senior Bradey Milikin, junior Maggie Roy and sophomore Hank Fisher all also earned points for the Skyhawks, placing between sixth and eighth in their respective events. 

Maggie Roy, Eliana Oquendo, Tristen Bough and Meg Wiginton all set personal records in their respective events. Roy in the mile, Oquendo in the 400-meter, Bough in the 800-meter and Wiginton in the women’s pentathlon. 

Graduate Janay Chapman would break a 27-year-old school record in the 200-meter sprint with a time of 24.98. 

Now, focus shifts to the outdoor season beginning March 14 at the Rhodes Invitational in Memphis, Tenn.
