Skyhawk golf claims fourth tournament victory of season, topping field at TSU Big Blue Intercollegiate

The UTM golf team wrapped up the 2020-21 campaign on a high note, leaping to the top of the team standings to take the TSU Big Blue Intercollegiate championship at Hermitage Golf Course.

Entering the day trailing the team lead by six strokes, the Skyhawks shot a 283 (-1) during today’s third and final round. In the process, UTM finished with a final score of 856 (+4) – edging out Day 1 leader Murray State (857, +5) for its fourth tournament title of the season under first-year head coach Austin Swafford.

“This was a great win to end our regular season and head into the Ohio Valley Conference Championship tournament,” Swafford said. “We improved on a few things from yesterday and it made a huge difference. I’m extremely proud of the guys.”

The Skyhawks were led today by the duo of Nick Wolf and Jacob Uehlein, who each carded a 70 (-1). Wolf secured 13 pars and three birdies on the day while Uehlein tied for the team lead with four birdies.

Ross Redmont followed with an even-par 71 that featured three birdies while Jack Story and Tate Chumley each tied for the final score of the UTM lineup with a 72 (+1). Story equaled Uehlein with a team-best four birdies while Chumley tacked on three birdies.

For the tournament, Wolf finished as the Skyhawks’ top finisher once again – placing fourth in the field of 63 golfers. His 212 (-1) was just two shots off the individual medalist as the junior from Murfreesboro, Tennessee tallied his fourth top-four finish of the season. He led the tournament in par-4 scoring (3.88, -4).

Uehlein earned the second top-10 of his young UTM career as the sophomore out of Tullahoma, Tennessee posted a 214 (+1) to finish 10th overall. He topped the event in par-5 scoring (4.56, -4) and paced the Skyhawks with 38 pars throughout the two-day event.

Following closely behind was Jack Story as the senior finished with a final tally of 215 (+2) to place 13th. The Dickson, Tennessee native led the tournament with a 2.83 par-3 scoring average (-2) and also tied for the team lead with 11 birdies.

Chumley (218, +5) and Redmont (219, +6) finished in back-to-back slots in 17th and 21st, respectively. Chumley equaled Story with a team-high 11 birdies while Redmont rapidly moved up the standings behind two straight even-par 71’s over the final 36 holes.

Competing as an individual, Peyton Dix shot a 73 (+2) today on his way to a 220 (+7) for the tournament. He placed 25th overall and ranked third in the event in par-3 scoring (2.92, -1).
