The Skyhawks’ star senior forward and reigning Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Player of the Year Chelsey Perry kicked off her senior year with a bang by capturing her 10th career OVC Player of the Week award, her second of the 2020-21 season.
Perry earned her newest weekly honor after a dominating 28-point performance against conference opponent Southeast Missouri (SEMO) Redhawks on Dec. 18. In addition to her team-leading point total, Perry ranked second on the squad in both rebounds (7) and assists (3).
Perry’s on-court dominance has been under the OVC’s spotlight since the start of the 2019-20 campaign. Over the previous 18 weeks, dating back to last season, Perry has earned half of the OVC’s Player of the Week honors, and now ranks second in UTM history in weekly honors behind Jasmine Newsome (15) and tied with Heather Butler (10), according to Sports Information.
The preseason all-OVC forward’s performance against SEMO marked the third time this season where she led all scorers. Her 28 points and seven rebounds was accompanied by .529 shooting percentage from the field and .80 percentage from the charity stripe. The Skyhawks would ultimately beat the Redhawks 61-58 and improve to a 2-1 overall record and a 1-0 start to conference play.
The Skyhawks will take on another OVC foe in the Jacksonville State Gamecocks (3-2 overall) on Dec. 30 in Jacksonville, Mississippi.
