The Epsilon Iota chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota (SAI) is celebrating its 50th anniversary on Saturday, March 30.
SAI is a national professional music fraternity that began on June 12, 1903, in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
The Epsilon Iota chapter was chartered at UTM on March 1, 1969, with only 11 original members. The chapter has more than doubled in size as of Spring 2019 with 30 members.
The celebration includes a full day for the sisters starting early in the morning with brunch and ending with the initiation of this semester’s Members-In-Training.
Attending the anniversary are current collegiate members as well as alumnae from all 50 years of Epsilon Iota’s existence.
There will be presentations given by a few of the sisters attending as well as opportunities for the sisters to share stories of their time as collegiate members and what they have done after graduation.
The anniversary celebration will host many opportunities for the sisters to share their musical talents with each other as well. This event also will provide a location for them to harbor their skills as musicians and make new memories.
By sharing the initiation ceremony with the alumnae, the sisterhood hopes to grow closer together with all members.
“Sigma Alpha Iota – Epsilon Iota hopes for many more years of promoting music and leadership among women on the campus of UTM and throughout the wonderful community of Martin, Tennessee,” current President Emma Foret, a junior Music Education major from Selmer, said.
Epsilon Iota performs music locally as a part of their community service each semester.
SAI focuses on furthering music locally, nationally and globally. The organization encourages members to find ways to support the art of music in as many ways as they can.
