The 67th General Assembly for the Student Government Association of UTM met for their first senate meeting of the semester on Thursday, September 21 at 7:00 p.m.
During this meeting, they welcomed the Freshman Council members, recognized the appointments of members for new positions and accepted the resignations of others.
This year, around one hundred freshman students applied to become part of the Freshman Council, but only thirty of those applicants were accepted.
SGA president Devin Majors commended those who made the cut, because they were so selective during the process of choosing new members.
The appointments were as follows:
Trisdan Ragland – Senator, College of Business and Global Affairs
Stephanie Carter – Senator at Large, College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences
Porter Streator III – Athletic Liaison,
Brady Heath – Associate Justice,
Gill Whitaker – Campus Observation Chairman
Jason Repath – Elections Commissioner
The resignations came from Emily Searcy, Senator for the College of Business and Global Affairs; Lora Moore, Associate Justice; Annie Harris, Senator for Humanities and Fine Arts; Preston Carter, Senator for the College of Business and Global Affairs; Porter Streator III, Executive Assistant; Jordan Long, Attorney General; and Jason Repath, Senator for the College of Humanities and Fine Arts.
Other than the appointments and resignations, no other announcements were made at this meeting.
The chairs of the committees said they were eager to continue to plan their goals for this semester and will have more to report in the following weeks on what is to come.
Senate meetings are held every two weeks in UC Room 111, the Robert Smith Legislative Chambers and are open to all students. For questions, email SGA President Devin Majors at devamajo@ut.utm.edu.
The next senate meeting will be held on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018 at 7 p.m.
