SGA Election: Unified Martin

It’s a new day at UTM

Unified Martin is committed to improving each student’s experience on campus through engagement. Our party’s main objective is to let your voice as a student be heard by your representatives and faculty on our campus. We all want a Student Government that is going to represent the students, not the people in power; it’s time for that change to happen. We will ensure that the students voices will always be heard here at UT Martin. We will enact legislation to ensure that leaders in SGA will listen to and heed what students want.

Daniel Jones, presidential candidate, has been in SGA for three years and has served as both the academic affairs committee chair and Chief Justice. He is a member of the Undergraduate Alumni Council and Collegiate Bass Fishing Team and serves in a leadership position in both organizations.

Jade Bleskey is a Junior in the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences. Originally from Shelbyville, Illinois, she is studying Agricultural Communications with a concentration in Pre-Law Studies as an aspiring agricultural attorney.  She served as the Freshman Council president and currently serves as the academic affairs committee chair. She is also on the Equestrian Team and serves as the Vice President of the Student Athlete Advisory Council.

Lora Moore is a rising senior in the College of Health, Education, and Behavioural Sciences. Originally from McEwen, Tennessee, she is studying Health and Human Performance. Lora has served in SGA over the past three years as a Freshman Council Senator, a Senator for the College of Health, Education, and Behavioral Sciences, and as the Student Affairs Committee Chairperson for two years. Lora is a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society, S.H.A.P.E Club, and has been involved in HerCampus.

Unified Martin’s executive council candidates and senator candidates have written more than 15 pieces of legislation. Many students hold leaders in Student Government and their respective senators responsible for addressing their concerns, something members of Unified Martin have strived to do.

Unified Martin has already spoken with a variety of athletic teams, Greek organizations and various other student organizations. It is our mission to engage with our fellow students so that we can remain approachable for sharing ideas to initiate change.

Unified Martin is striving to increase involvement in student organizations and athletic events. Student participation is vital to campus life, and the University would not function if it were not for that. Unified Martin will support and promote any and all student organizations as well as athletic earns here at UT Martin. Priority registration for athletes is important to all of us because of how integral athletes are to the school. We will work with faculty to make sure that happens.

Finally, we want to decrease the financial burdens on students by increasing awareness about financial aid, making parking more affordable, and removing unnecessary student fees.

Unified Martin will host more effective surveys, conduct more in-depth research, actively engage with and listen to students and take their concerns into consideration. Senators will be required to attend student organizations and talk to their constituents instead of serving 220 useless office hours weekly. Unified Martin will strive to enact legislation that will hold members in leadership positions accountable for their actions.

The executive council and senators on our platform represent all of us. From Greeks to athletes, and everything in between, we want to hear YOUR voice, to be YOUR vote in YOUR SGA. Your voice matters; it’s a new day at UTM.
