The UTM Student Government Association (SGA) will host their Student Appreciation Week Sept. 23-28, with each day filled with activities to show Skyhawks their support.
“Student Appreciation Week is pretty much what it sounds like, a week to show students that not only does the school care about everybody, and it’s also a good way for us (SGA) to get out and let students know we’re here,” Hunter McCloud, SGA vice president, said.
The event kicks off on Monday, Sept. 23, with the State of the SGA Address in Watkins Auditorium. Student Body President, Devin Majors, will address the audience about role SGA plays on campus. Door prizes will also be given away to participating students.
The Student Appreciation Cookout will take place on Sept. 24 in the University Village Phase 1 lawn. The Student Activities Council will provide food, games and rides, and will host a DJ to provide music and entertainment.
On Wednesday, Sept. 25, SGA is holding events to show appreciation specifically for student workers.
Free donuts and coffee will be served to students on Thursday morning at the University Center North Patio. Later that evening, there will be a Skate Night hosted by SGA in the Student Life Center. This event is free for all students and will run from 6 – 9 p.m.
Sept. 27 is Student Athlete Appreciation Day. This will include honors bestowed on athletes by the SGA.
Finally, on Saturday, Sept. 28, SGA is hosting a Student Tailgate Party at the Hardy M. Graham Football Stadium. There will be t-shirts and popsicles to giveaway, along with more music and entertainment from a DJ. The tailgate will last from 4:30 – 6 p.m.
“We hope these events bring out many students to show how much SGA appreciates them,” Majors said.
