In 2017, I came to UT Martin wanting to study veterinary science and for personal reasons I left. After leaving, I continued to pursue my education elsewhere. UT Martin had left quite an impact on me from my freshman year and I decided to come back after earning my Associate’s Degree. I did not know where to start or what to major in. All I knew is that I have a passion for writing.
I went online to the university’s website and started looking at the list of majors and Mass Communications stuck out to me. Why I had never thought of that– I will never know. So, I reached out to Dr. Nanney and looking back at those emails, I can say his eagerness to see me succeed and pursue my passion never changed. It only grew.
Dr. Nanney was so helpful in that transition, as I was so nervous to come back after leaving. This is when I met Ms. Tomi. She became my advisor and she instantly made me feel at home and any anxiousness I had subsided. She has helped me so much and so many other students through their time here. She encouraged me to join the Pacer staff and as a person who is usually introverted and hesitant on coming out of my shell, I felt no hesitation with joining the staff.
Being apart of the Pacer staff has helped me grow creatively and helped me expand my ideas and styles of writing. I am so grateful for all of the skills I have learned from my time here. I have become so fond of everyone on the staff and everyone in this department (Mass Media and Strategic Communications). I couldn’t have done it without my mentors. I don’t really know how to end this and a part of me doesn’t want to. Though I can’t wait to see what this new chapter in my life unfolds.
Thank you to everyone who has never stopped routing for me and thank you all for pushing me to be my best.
Never stop writing and go Skyhawks!
