The four years I have spent at UT Martin have been the best of my life thus far. Sadly, my time on campus is quickly coming to an end, but I can’t think of a better ending than to write a farewell.
In fall 2019, I was a nervous freshman who wouldn’t have said “boo” to a goose. There I was – three hours from home, an undecided major and no idea what I wanted to do with my life. When people asked what my major was or what I wanted to “be,” I never had a definite answer. (Spoiler: I still don’t.) I remember feeling so behind because I seemed to be the only person in every room without a plan, and it was showtime, right?
Actually, not having a plan four years ago opened me up to several experiences that have truly changed my life for the better. Now, as I prepare to graduate, I’m happy with the person I’ve become over these four years. My dreams of becoming a writer, a traveler and a half-decent cook have all come true at UT Martin.
The highlight of my college experience, by far, was my semester abroad in Siena, Italy. I won’t bore you with the details, but that trip taught me the value of changing your perspective. My one piece of advice to anyone and everyone is to study abroad and do it wholeheartedly. Don’t forget your toothbrush like I did, though.
It’s sad that my only semester working for The Pacer is my last. If I could go back in time, I would do this job every semester. That is my one and only regret.
Thank you to my friends and mentors who endlessly encouraged me and saw my potential when I was blind to it. You are the reason for my success.
