When I walked on the campus of UTM as a freshman, it wasn’t the first time. I have lived in Martin my entire life and grown up on this campus. My dad graduated from UTM in 2005 so it was a no-contest situation for me. Plus I could live at home and not worry about losing my car in the parking lot of the dorms.
UTM has been my home for four years. It really never seemed like it was until a couple of things happened. I lost someone dear to me and the only place I could hide was on campus. It kept me from thinking about how much pain I was in. Plus some of my best friends were made here and I wouldn’t trade them for anything.
The best part of my time at UTM has to be this year. My senior year has rocked. I have done so many things and traveled to so many places that I’m still not sure I can remember them all. I was named sports editor before Homecoming back in October and since then it has been go, go, go on my end.
My favorite thing as sports editor would have to be watching the Skyhawk men and women’s basketball teams go to the OVC Tournament. I was never really into basketball until this year so I think it’s a great achievement that everyone is proud of, including me.
After I graduate I plan to move to Knoxville and start writing for the rest of my life. Writing had been a part of my life for as long as I can remember and I want it to be that way. I want to be a novelist. I live in my own little world so why not bring it to life for the whole world to see? I have already completed seven novels that I hope to publish.
My biggest dream though is to be a mojo. For those who don’t know, a mojo is a mobile journalist. I would love to write for the FIFA World Cup someday since soccer is my favorite sport of all. It would be amazing to get a chance to meet some of the best soccer players in the world.
If any or all of my dreams come true, I owe it to my family and all my professors and friends at UTM. Without any of them, I wouldn’t have made it to where I am today. I found my niche in the world and I want to be able to go along with it. I would recommend UTM to anyone because my experience here has been the best.
I don’t think I could have found a better place to call home. I take away a great degree and great friends. That’s all that really matters to me since my friends and family are what keep me going. I will definitely be coming back to see everyone when I leave.
