As I look forward to graduation, I also look back on the four years I have spent at UTM. There have been ups and downs but everything has helped me get to where I am today.
My time at UTM started as a Sociology major. After a semester I switched majors to Public Relations. Not even a semester went by before I found where I truly fit in: Media Design.
In my time with the Communications department I have been lucky enough to get to know most of the wonderful faculty. First I’d like to thank Dr. Tracy Rutledge. Before I declared Media Design as my major, she advised me and gave me advice that helped me find my place here at UTM. Since then she has been an amazing professor who has helped me grow not only as a designer, but also as a professional. There have been many instances where I’ve seen the hard work she puts in that shows how much she cares about her students. I’d also like to thank Mr. Rodney Freed. I’ve had Mr. Freed for many classes over the past four years. With each class I’ve seen more and more that he wants his students to succeed, but he also wants them to work hard and earn it for themselves. Lastly, I’d like to thank Ms. Tomi McCutchen. Ms. Tomi took me under her wing here at The Pacer and as a result has been the target for many silly questions.
As a Fashion Merchandising minor, I would like to thank Ms. Aimee Jones. I’ve been lucky to have her for almost all of my minor classes. Ms. Jones has shown me the vast world of fashion and the many career opportunities within it.
I would like to thank everyone at Student Health and Counseling Services. All of the staff at Student Health have been accommodating and helpful any time that I needed them. I came into college with unmanageable social anxiety and depression. The counselors at Student Health helped me in ways I did not know were possible. Because of Student Health I will graduate with total control over my anxiety and depression, two things that controlled me my freshman and sophomore years.
Finally, I would like to thank everyone at UTM for making this university everything that it is. UTM wasn’t my first college of choice. However, I’ve grown to love it and I can’t imagine a college experience without the amazing professors and students I have met along the way.
