The Weakley County FilmFest has expanded to include more Tennessee counties and is now named The NorWest Film Festival.
The second annual festival will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 6 in UTM’s Vanguard Little Theatre in the Fine Arts Building, Room 167.
The festival was first brought up by Vanguard Theatre Director, Kevin Shell.
When he and his organization first partnered with the Rho Gamma chapter of the Alpha Psi Omega National Theatre Honors Society last year, they decided the showcase would only feature entries from Weakley County.
This year’s new namesake includes the counties of Dyer, Lake, Gibson, Obion and Henry.
The sole purpose of the festival is to promote film and the arts in West Tennessee. For this reason, all entries must be shot entirely in one of the aforementioned counties.
The event producers have also expanded the allotted amount of time for entries this year to 4-15 minutes; it had previously been a maximum of only five minutes.
Other entry rules include no nudity, no abusive or offensive language, no copyrighted music without written permission, no depiction of gory violence and no prank or practical joke productions.
The first-place winner will receive $100 and a plaque, second-place will receive $50 and a plaque, and third-place will receive $25 and a certificate.
Entrance is free, but donations are accepted.
Any funds not used for awards will be donated to the Alpha Psi Omega National Theatre Honors Society.
