As a concluding performance after four years of study and dedication to the vocal arts, Samuel Green performed in his senior recital on Friday, Nov. 22, 2024.
Through a superb display of musicianship, Green recited a variety of pieces that were written in numerous languages across various time periods with the help of collaborative pianist Dr. Chan Mi Jean. He articulated each note of these melodious compositions with power, clarity and emotion. The audience was mesmerized throughout each number.
The pieces performed included several classical pieces such as Première Danse and Crépuscule by Jules Massenet; La farfalletta, Ma rendi pur contento and Vanne, o rosa fortunata by Vincenzo Bellini and O! du mein holder Abendstern by Richard Wagner. The concert continued with beautiful pieces such as The Roadside Fire and Whither must I wander? by Ralph Vaughn Williams and My Lord, What a Morning by Mark Hayes.
Before his final number, Green made sure to thank Dr. Robert Mancusi, Dr. Amy Yeung, Dr. Mark Statler, Dr. Mark Simmons, the Wesley Foundation, the Martin First United Methodist Church, his friends at home in Munford, Tennessee, and his family for supporting him throughout his journey. He also dedicated his final number to his late great-grandfather, and then tearfully sang “In the Garden,” arranged by Kenon D. Renfrow.
Green will become a student-teacher at Ripley Elementary School and is also preparing to perform at the Distinguished Concerts International New York under composer and conductor Eric Whitacre.
