On April 9, the Student Activities Council will be hosting an amateur film festival for students in the Watkins Auditorium at 7 p.m.
UTM students are encouraged to participate in either the viewing of the films or the submission of films, which will be due on April 1 by 5 p.m. for review. Films may be submitted to the SAC office or information center in the UC and may be any genre of film as long as they are no longer than 10 minutes.
For a complete list of rules and regulations, visit http://utm.orgsync.com/org/sac/filmfest. Students are advised to pay close attention to these rules, as it only takes one violation to be deemed ineligible. If a film is found ineligible but can be easily fixed, the director will be notified that there is a violation and will be given time to fix the submission before the event.
Participants will be awarded prizes for first, second and third place. A student may submit as many films as he or she pleases as long as they are in no way related to one another, as the films will be judged independently.
The winners will be decided by a committee of judges comprised of SAC representatives, so students need not worry about student bias affecting the outcome of the competition. Matt Masengill, a junior Electrical Engineering major, is the organizer of this event, and says that the panel of judges also has the potential to include professors if the amount of submissions is high enough.
Those who participate in the film submissions will be informed on their eligibility as early as April 2, when the review process is completed. Students should remember to submit the films in DVD format, with the film being the only thing on the disc.
