Runway replaces OrgSync

After utilizing OrgSync, an online forum for managing Registered Student Organizations (RSO), for 10 years, UTM has transitioned to Runway, an improved online program.

The decision to change platforms was made by the Office of Student Life.

Runway is programmed by Campus Labs, an online business which collects student data to improve campus services. According to its website, Campus Labs is “focused on empowering and transforming colleges and universities through strategic data insights.”

While Runway is a new tool for UTM, the forum is still able to utilize student data stored in Orgsync to make the transition easier.

According to Rachel Stephens, Assistant Director for Student Life, the usability of the new program is similar to OrgSync, but updated to fit the modern generation.

“So far, the reaction to (Runway) has been good,” Stephens said. “I feel like it’s fairly intuitive on the student’s side.”

Runway can be accessed through the UTM Portal, but also through an app called CORQ. CORQ uses the standard UTM email and password so users don’t have to create a new account.

Runway organizes each RSO into categories by their type, such as academic, club sports or Greek Life, and then categorizes RSOs more specifically into themes, such as arts and music, athletics, social and learning, using tags.

RSOs will be able to post events with tags and reminders to advertise to a larger audience of students. Students can also search for events using perks which displays events with free food, free swag and credit.

The new program also provides the ability to track and approve service hours for RSOs through Student Life, which previously had to be done on paper.

Another feature of Runway allows for a changing photo gallery for organizations to feature their work and events. The program will automatically circulate the photos each time the page is refreshed.

A representative from Campus Labs will host specialty workshops at UTM Sept. 16-17 to teach those interested how to use Runway efficiently. The schedule for the workshops is to be announced at a later date, but will host different classes for RSO members, such as presidents, treasurers and advisers.
