The UTM Rodeo Team kicks off their first rodeo competition of the semester this Thursday, Feb. 22.
Last semester, both the men’s and women’s rodeo teams placed in the top four in every rodeo they competed in. With that impressive record and the momentum of last semester, the UTM Rodeo Team launches into their spring semester this weekend at East Mississippi Community College.
The team’s 54 riders will compete in seven events.
Each of the riders has the opportunity to compete in one of the following categories:
- Bareback Riding
- Barrel Racing
- Bull Riding
- Steer Wrestling
- Team Roping-Header
- Team Roping-Heel
- Tie-Down Roping
Fallon Fogarty, a sophomore from Oakland, said she is excited about the upcoming rodeo.
“We are all very pumped! This is our first rodeo of the semester and I am personally honored to be competing with such [great] athletes. One thing Coach always says is to mentally prepare yourself so we will all have our game faces on,” says Fogarty about their upcoming competition in Mississippi.
The second meet for the Skyhawks will be Apr. 5 at Monticello, Arkansas. This event will be just a week before the 50 annual UTM Spring College Rodeo.
“Rodeo Week,” as it is affectionately called by many people at UTM, is an affordable event that many students, faculty and community members alike look forward to as fun and invigorating. With free food, impressive riding and a strong, competitive team, the UTM Rodeo is a must attend for anyone interested in the Skyhawks.
The UTM Rodeo Team has one rodeo following the UTM Rodeo before heading to the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) in Casper, Wyoming.
