The Skyhawk rifle squad captured their first win of the 2019-2020 season, posting a 4599-4596 performance against conference opponent Morehead State.
This marked not only the first match in Martin for the season, but also the first time in program history that electronic targets were used at the Skyhawk Rifle Range according to Sports Information.
The Skyhawks started off strong on the first day of competition on Saturday, Nov. 9, putting up 2,266 on the small-bore portion of the competition. The Skyhawks edged out the Eagles the next day putting up 2,333 air rifle points, barely beating MSU’s 2,330.
Junior Jennifer Plocinik led the way for the Skyhawks in the small-bore portion, putting up a score of 573. Senior Kaitlin Korinek finished just behind Plocinik with a small-bore score of 572.
Plocinik tied for the the lead in the small-bore with MSU’s Bryce Ward.
On air rifle, Korinek took the lead with a score of 590, followed by fellow Skyhawks Plocinik (585), junior Jacob Osborne (582) and sophomore Rachel Sprague (576).
Overall, Korinek led the Skyhawks with an aggregate score of 1162, followed by Plocinik (1158), Osborne (1143) and Sprague (1143).
Korniek led all shooters in aggregate score, with Plocinik tying for second place with MSU’s Ryan Hinson in aggregate score.
The rifle squad will finish off their fall schedule with a matchup against another conference opponent in Murray State on Nov. 23 in Murray, Kentucky.
