It’s rare to find an album that leaves me wanting more of the last song, yet hoping the next song is as equally amazing; “The Restless” by The Gallery happens to be one of those albums.
This album, released Feb. 26, is sure to be a hit among music lovers everywhere. This band has been compared to FUN., but I would say that is unfair to The Gallery because, in my opinion, they are so much better than that.
They have a very interesting sound. Their genre is shown on iTunes as Rock & Roll, but if anything, I would label them more as Indie. Although, I hate to do that because it almost seems to limit who they are as a band.
Their album, “The Restless,” was released at the perfect time. This is an album that makes me want to get in the car, roll the windows down and just ride around listening to it. It couldn’t be more perfect for an album released days before UTM’s Spring Break.
“Young & Restless,” song number two on the album, has amazing lyrics that I absolutely want to blast over the speakers on campus. “We are the young and restless, together no one can stand against us. We are the young and restless, we are one” is just part of the chorus. The lines from this song are so empowering and reminds me that just because I’m young doesn’t mean I can’t go after any dream I’ve ever had. I almost want to apply it to my job also, because we are young and restless. My other staff and I can literally do anything we set our minds to. I have a way of taking songs and applying them further to my life than they were probably meant to go, but I think that is the cool thing about music. Every person can gain something different from a single song.
I can’t possibly pick one favorite song from this album; I really like almost every single one of them. Out of the 12 songs on the album, 11 of them are completely stunning. The lyrics of all 12 songs are so well-constructed. The songs are so meaningful and incredibly realistic. The entire album is inspiring and applicable.
The only negative thing I could find to say about this album is that the song “Restless Soul” didn’t seem to fit the lead vocalist’s voice. I didn’t so much mind the lyrics, but it seems like he was trying to push a raspy sound, and it didn’t work. I will say that the song seems too familiar, one heard before with only a slight variation. Not to say it’s terrible, it just seems like one of those songs that every Indie band preceding The Gallery has written.
The band is comprised of mostly college students and they seem to be writing to college students. Their lyrics aren’t childish, like most you will hear on the radio these days but written about what seem to be real life experiences.
There are some truly amazing songs on this album. I would honestly suggest for anyone who enjoys music to listen to the album and see what ways The Restless can inspire you.
