Review: Apple strikes again with new iOS 7 update

Apple iOS 7 update is coming Sept. 18 with all kinds of new additions and a completely new design.

Some may ask, “What is iOS?” Apple.com calls it the “foundation” of all apple devices. The “OS” literally stands for “operating system,” and obviously, the lowercase “I” is in front all of the names of Apple products. This new operating system is packed full of applications and features that make the user have the power to do almost anything easily, quickly and in a fun way.

iOS 7 comes with a new look. It has been made into something that uses more bright colors other than the more basic ones that have been seen since 2007 when the first iPhone was released. There are a lot more transparencies in the new update. There is a look of “layers” instead of having to leave an application, one can simply go from app to app. From the emails to iMessages and from calendars to reminders, they all have a new typography that is larger and easier to see.

“When something is designed to work beautifully, it tends to look that way, too,” Apple.com said.

While iOS 7 is the new face of the devices, there is a new voice as well. The female voice that users have been hearing since the iPhone 4S is still there, but she has a male friend that someone can use as his or her “Siri” also. As always, Siri has gotten smarter with the new update. It will automatically do a Wikipedia search instead of sending the user to the Internet.

Another new feature is the Control Center. The new update will put more options into the Control Center to, again, make it easier for the user. From the new Control Center, the user can turn the WiFi and Bluetooth on or off, lock the phone, adjust the music and many others. Plus, the Control Center can be accessed from the lock screen on the iPhone.

A new component that is also seen in the Control Center is the new AirDrop, which allows users to share photos, videos and contacts with people that are close to them. Sending a text message or email could still be used for someone that is farther away, but AirDrop is used for friends that are in the same room or area using WiFi and Bluetooth. Also, Apple ensures that what is shared is secure and safe.

The iOS 7 Notification Center is better than ever. It still tells the date and time with a new look, but it also has a new feature called “Today” that is handy. It allows the user to see what is going on during that specific day, whether it is an appointment, someone’s birthday or even the weather. Like the Control Center, this can be accessed from the lock screen if needed.

Who needs Instagram when there is the new iOS 7 camera? It has a new “square” component that looks more like an Instagram photo because it does not take up the whole screen. Also like Instagram, the user can add a filter to a photo as soon as they take it. Also, the photos on iPhone are set up in a new way; the user will be able to see all of their photographs in categories according to the time or place they were taken thanks to smart groupings.

Apple has taken another step forward with iTunes as well. There is going to be the new iTunes Radio with iOS 7. The stations are created according to what the user listens to the most. It comes with a very wide selection of music that will appeal to everyone.

The new App Store is extraordinary, because it offers the Apps Near Me portion where someone can find popular applications according to their location.

These are just the top layer of goodies that come along with iOS 7. To learn more or want to see these features in motion, go to Apple.com.
