Pumpkin Carving and Costume Contest

The Student Activities Council hosted a Pumpkin Carving and Costume contest in the Skyhawk Dining Hall on Thursday, October 30.

These competitions were open to any students on campus willing to participate. The pumpkin carving and costume contests were judged by Keith Royster, the operations manager of the café, and Ross Ratokowski, the executive chef.

Morgan Eskew won first place in the pumpkin carving contest, while Laura Kimble finished in second. Other participants in thecontest were Devan Earheart, Arby Walker and Cody Lumpley.

“I really enjoyed this event because I got a free pumpkin and was able to carve it while at work,” said Eskew.

“It was stressful but fun,” said Lumpley. “With the time limitation they gave us, it was fun to try and be creative.”

The carving contest concluded at 6 p.m. and the winner was declared shortly after. Immediately following the pumpkin carving contest was the costume contest.

Natural resource management major Shelby Pendarvis won the costume contest with her costume of a character from 2002 horror film The Ring.

“I have done [this costume] in previous years and it is really creepy and easy to scare people with,” said Pendarvis. “It plays onto typical fears of people. I was going to be [Batman villain] Two-Face, but my prosthetics don’t come in until tomorrow.”

Second place was awarded to Josh Young, a freshman Natural Resource Management major who dressed as Link from the popular video game series The Legend of Zelda. Third place was awarded to Biology major Dustin Robins, who dressed as a werewolf.
