On Oct. 4, UTM had a night of tumbling, cheering and dancing to celebrate the upcoming game against Jacksonville State.
The Student Activities Council, or SAC, hosted “Pyramid,” which is an event where sororities and fraternities compete against each other with well-synced moves and school spirit.
The fraternities started off the night. The first on the scene was Pi Kappa Alpha, who won the fraternity division and best in show of the night. Their school cheer and ninja-like costumes wowed the crowd. The Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity started the show off with high energy.
Sigma Chi came in second with a “Great Gatsby” theme and their gentlemen-like attire. The fraternity had the crowd cheering with their smooth dance moves and jump-up toe-touches.
Sigma Alpha Epsilon took to the mat next and gave the crowd a basketball-themed routine and a cheer.
Finishing up the fraternity division was Alpha Tau Omega, who also had a “Great Gatsby” theme. They came in with bow-ties, and rocked the mat with flips across the stage and high pyramids.
The show took a brief intermission to allow UTM head football coach Jason Simpson to introduce his 17 football seniors.
“This team is ranked 22nd in the country, and I’m very proud,” said Simpson.
Captain Skyhawk also made an appearance, throwing orange footballs into the crowd while the football seniors pumped up everyone yelling “Go Skyhawks!”
Alpha Delta Pi, who was ready for cheerleading with their school spirit cheer, started off the sorority division. Winners and best in show, Alpha Omicron Pi, marched on the mat with a ready-to-win attitude, and high-flying toe-touches and back flips. This year marked the fourth consecutive time they won.
Zeta Tau Alpha sparkled with their innovative upside-down pyramid and their in-sync dance moves. Chi Omega finished up the sorority competition, and jazzed up the scene with their “Chicago” themed dance and attire.
Chi Omega made a pyramid where they stood feet to feet, and won second place.
