Saturday, the city of Martin and surrounding areas came to show off their pets at the Soybean Festival Pet Show.

Pets, their owners, and supporters arrived between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. for registration, and the contest kicked off at 4 p.m. There were over 25 pets and their owners competing to win for Best Costume, Best Trick, Why I love my pet, Cutest Pet and Best in Show.

Most of the pets in the show were dogs, but there was one, Katter, that was a caterpillar. Katter, while very small in size, and her owner were able to “aww” the crowd and won Best in Show.

“We have a lot of pets. We have dogs, cats and birds, but when we asked our daughter who she wanted to put in the show, she wanted Katter,” said Katter’s owner.

Many of the pet owners agreed, it wasn’t all about winning during the Pet Show.

“It’s just fun! As owners we always see our pet’s personalities. To be able show other people and be able to see other peoples’ pets come out is a better feeling than winning,” said David Berts, a pet show contestant owner.

There were 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners for each category, except Best in the Show. There were prizes given, including gift bags filled with all the things most dogs would love – treats and toys.

The pets were all unique in their own way, which made it an exciting event for the people that came out to the show, especially the kids.

“I really loved how the dogs had on costumes and  the category for Best Tricks was also really entertaining and funny,” says UTM freshman, Kyanna Parrish when asked about her favorite part of the show.
