Skyhawk junior forward Chelsey Perry of the women’s basketball squad has etched her name in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) history books by capturing her seventh OVC Player of the Week honor this season, tying the league record set by former Skyhawk Jasmine Newsome in 2012-13, according to Sports Information.
Perry won her seventh weekly honor off of the heels of two dominating performances against the Tennessee Tech (TTU) Golden Eagles on Feb. 6 and Jacksonville State (JSU) Gamecocks (Feb. 8).
Against TTU, Perry went off for 37 points, eight rebounds, three blocks, two steals and two assists in a 71-62 victory that gave UTM the undisputed No. 1 ranking in the OVC standings. Perry followed that performance with 27 points and seven rebounds in a 86-72 win over the Gamecocks a couple of days later.
Over the course of UTM’s last two games, Perry averaged 32 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 1.5 steals. Perry currently leads the nation in field goals made (200) and total points scored (518) while ranking third nationally in points per game at 22.5, per Sports Information.
Look for Perry and the rest of UTM’s No. 1 seeded women’s basketball squad to continue OVC action against the No.2 Southeast Missouri Redhawks (18-5, 10-2 OVC) on Feb. 13.
