Sophomore guard Parker Stewart has captured yet another Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Player of the Week honor, making it the fifth time in the 2019-20 campaign he has done so.
Stewart, who joins two-time All-American and former Skyhawk Lester Hudson, is one of only two players in program history to receive the honor five times, according to Sports Information. Stewart won the weekly honor on Nov. 18, Nov. 25, Dec. 2 and Jan. 3.
On the offensive side of the ball for the Skyhawks, Stewart typically either leads the team in scoring or is one the top three. In two road games against Eastern Kentucky (Jan. 30, 99-86 loss) and Morehead State (Feb. 1, 85-77 loss), Stewart averaged 25.5 points per game, eight rebounds per game, two assists per game and one steal per game despite being on the losing team.
Stewart’s shooting percentages over the two games helped keep UTM within striking distance of their opponent, making 17 of 38 field goal attempts and 13 of 16 free throw attempts. To go along with that, Stewart also equaled his career-high scoring total against Morehead State with 33 points while adding eight rebounds, two assists and a steal, per Sports Information.
The Pittsburgh transfer currently holds second place in some key statistical areas in the OVC, including scoring (20.5 points per game average), three-point field goals made (2.9 per game average) and minutes played (36.5 on average).
Stewart and the rest of the Skyhawk men’s basketball team will return home after multiple weeks of road games Feb. 6 to take on the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles (5-18 overall, 2-8 OVC).
