UT Martin will host a unique weekly gathering beginning next month.
Pastor Del Lawrence, better known as simply Mr. Del, will moderate these bible-studyesque meetings each Thursday night for the entire month of February.
Mr. Del is a gospel rapper from Memphis, Tennessee. He was formerly a member of the Oscar award winning rap group Three 6 Mafia. Mr. Del received Christ fifteen years ago and has made it his mission to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ instead of the message of sin and damnation. His success as a gospel artist easily rivals that of his as a mainstream rapper.
The weekly UT Martin classes, which will be held in the UC, will be based on his book, Soul Ties: How to Detox from Toxic Relationships.
“Soul Ties is a book about relationships and how to get through them. …When relationships go bad, we don’t seek help for our wounds. As a result of all of these bad relationships, you end up getting to a point where your character and personality change. So what Soul Ties does is…[teach] us how to detox the spiritual way,” Lawrence says.
Mr. Del would like to encourage all students to come out. The classes will be held every Thursday night during the month of February in room 230 in the UC. They will begin at 7 p.m.
In the end, Mr. Del says, his message is a simple one.
“Christ can change your life for the better. Let [Christ] into your heart. It will be the best decision you ever made.”
