Elections for the Student Government Association of UTM take place Tuesday, April 3.
The two parties running for next semester are the Pro Student Party, led by Devin Majors and the Unified Martin Party, led by Daniel Jones. Any student at UTM is eligible to vote from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. next Tuesday. Voting can be done in person at the University Center or online by visiting utm.edu/election.
We at The Pacer believe in a free press that is able to report at every level of government, no matter how big or small. Last semester showed that the student body cares about SGA and wants to see positive change, though there has been debate if SGA reciprocates that feeling. No matter who wins this election, it is The Pacer‘s job t0 report on campus events and activities, including SGA.
Whether it is the Pro Student Party or Unified Martin party in power, The Pacer will not officially endorse a party and will remain objective when covering SGA. Our opinions will not stand in the way of being honest, truth-seeking journalists.
An active SGA is a good thing for UTM when complemented by an honest media outlet such as The Pacer. Civil and non-violent political discourse is a healthy thing not just for UTM, but also for society in general.
