The UTM track and field squads showed continued growth and progression in its final tune-up prior to the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Indoor Track and Field Championships with numerous season bests at the Hoosier Hills Invitational on Friday.
The Skyhawks saw one school record fall while the team posted 10 season bests on Friday.
Leading the way for the Skyhawks was senior Ryan Ford who posted his second straight meet with a school record. Ford rewrote the program’s 3k benchmark with a time of 8:16.13 to finish fifth overall. Also posting a nice 3k time was Alex Schell who recorded a PR of his own at 8:41.53. Then on the women’s side, freshman Erica Fisher finished fourth with a 3k time of 10:00.64.
UTM would continue its string of season-best performances in the team’s respective mile events. On the women’s side, the pair of Agok Ayuen (5:17.29) and Faith Kiprotich (5:18.27) posted back-to-back finishes for PRs. For the men, Oisin Gailin ran well in his return from injury with a time of 4:19.38 in the mile.
Moving into shorter distances, freshman Victor Kemboi won his heat in the 800m with a time of 2:00.4.
Four different athletes secured season-best performances in the 200m dash. Brady Fry posted a time of 23.03 seconds while Colby Martin tallied a pair of PRs in both the 60m (7.14 seconds) and 200m (22.91 seconds). On the women’s side, the duo of Jasmyn Pilcher and Myann Davidson finished with identical times of 26.89 seconds.
UTM will compete for the OVC Indoor Championship in Birmingham, Ala. on Feb. 26-27.
