UTM has recently announced the addition of several non-degree classes that will be offered this fall.
UTM sent an email to the student body on Sept. 4 announcing five new, non-degree classes which begin on Sept. 5. These classes include water aerobics, Korean language and culture, digital photography, a reading clinic and a phlebotomy technician program.
Water Aerobics will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:15-10:15 a.m. through Dec. 5. This class will be taught by Donna McBeth at the Elam Center Pool and requires a $40 registration fee. Water Aerobics is a class that will improve flexibility and strengthen the larger muscles of the body.
Korean Language and Culture classes meet on Mondays from 5:30-6:30 p.m. for beginners, 6:30-7:30 p.m. for intermediates and 7:30-8:30 p.m. for advanced speakers of the Korean language. This class will be taught by Jisun Collier beginning Sept. 10 through Dec. 10. There is a $30 registration fee which includes handouts and a textbook. Students will also be invited to the annual Korean New Year party and Kimchi festival, so they can experience Korean culture and food.
Digital Photography will meet every Tuesday from 6-9 p.m. beginning Sept. 18 through Oct. 9. Tom Gallien will be instructing this class. There is a $125 registration fee. Digital Photography is a basic introductory course that will teach how to use a camera, the basic composition of photography, as well as how to photograph a frame-worthy picture.
The Reading Clinic will meet Sept. 10 through Oct. 4 and requires a $100 registration fee and a $25 workbook. This clinic will take place at the UTM Reading Center and is designed for students ranging in ages from second grade through twelfth grade. This class is for students who need extra help in improving their reading comprehension and abilities.
The Phlebotomy Technician Program will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9:30 p.m. beginning Sept. 18 and going through Dec. 11. This class will also meet on two Saturdays, Oct. 20 and Nov. 17 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
There is a $1,799 registration fee which includes all supplies and textbooks. In this course, you will learn terminology and the procedures of blood collection. You will also receive hands-on practice as well as clinical training in skills and techniques to perform puncture methods. The National Health career Association (NHA) Certification Exam is given at the end of the course. The cost of the exam is not included in the registration fee for the course.
