Nintendo released more details Tuesday regarding the seventh generation of the popular video game series Pokémon.
The company released a trailer Tuesday morning featuring an official release date, a new region of the Pokémon world and the new starter Pokémon and legendary Pokémon for Pokémon Sun and Moon.
The company revealed that the new region in which the games are set will be called Alola. The region is a tropical area, and is reportedly based on the climate and weather of Hawaii. Along with information on the game’s region, Nintendo also released the names and designs of the game’s new starter Pokémon: Rowlet, Litten, and Popplio.
Rowlet is a grass-and-flying type owl Pokemon with its starting move being Leafage. According to the Pokémon Company, Rowlett “can attack without making a sound. It flies silently through the skies, drawing near to its opponent without being noticed, and then lashing out with powerful kicks. It can also attack from a distance using the razor-sharp leaves that form part of its feathers.”
Litten is a fire type cat Pokémon with its starting move being Ember. Litten is “logical but also passionate, always remains coolheaded and doesn’t show its emotions on the surface.”
Popplio is a water type sea lion Pokémon with its starting move being Water Gun. Popplio’s “swimming speed is known to exceed 25 mph. It’s better at moving in the water than on land. Still, when it’s on land, it takes advantage of the elasticity of its balloons to perform acrobatic stunts and jumps.”
The two new legendary Pokémon were also shown in the trailer. Though their names have yet to be announced, the mascot for Pokémon Sun seems to be based on a lion, while the mascot for Pokémon Moon appears to be based on a bat.
While there are still more parts of the game that haven’t been released, it’s safe to say that the reactions from fans across the globe are of excitement and impatience. Some fans are currently smitten over Rowlet, others are expecting memes based on Litten’s name and some don’t really understand Popplio, but still think it is adorable. They are also in a state of anticipation while waiting for the two new legendary Pokémon to be officially named.
Pokémon Sun and Moon will officially be released November 18th of this year.
