Nike Inc. began its holiday releases with the anticipated release of the Air Jordan 6 “Infrared” for this year’s Black Friday shoe shopper.
This sneaker has great significance in the history and brand of the man known as the G.O.A.T. (Greatest Of All Time), his “Airness,” Michael Jeffrey Jordan. This particular sneaker had a worthy buzz because of it being the shoe Jordan wore while beating the Los Angeles Lakers four games to one in the 1991 NBA finals. He also won the first of his six rings with the Chicago Bulls. Jordan then added the titles of NBA Finals MVP, NBA Scoring champion, and his 2nd League MVP.
The “Infrared” 6s were first retro released in 2000 and again in 2010, with Nike deciding to bring them back in 2014 for those who were too young or missed out on the previous releases.
This classic sneaker features a cleanly stitched nubuck material wrapped around the sneaker. Unlike the previous releases of the 2010 version, which featured a varsity red and black colorway, in the 2014 release Nike chose to use a pinkish infrared colorway. This can also be seen on the Jordan Brand release of the Air Jordan 6 Retro white “Infrared” earlier this year.
Though it’s not what fans are used to it does fare very well and it works perfectly with the black suede (nubuck). Nike also re-introduced the 3M reflective material to each side of the sneaker to much fan delight. Nike finished the sneaker with a clean icy blue bottom that contrasts well with the rest of the shoes.
Nike and Jordan fans will be glad to know the material and production of this sneaker is of an exceptional quality compared to some of the recent releases. The stitching of the sneaker is seamless; you may find a few spots of glue but don’t fret because that’s to be expected. It doesn’t hinder the presentation or artistry of the sneaker.
All in all, if you are a beginner, occasional sneaker buyer or a devout follower of the G.O.A.T., you’ll appreciate the Air Jordan 6 Retro “Infrared”.
The sneaker was released in all family sizes but good luck finding a pair for retail prices because most stores sold out in the first 30 minutes after the doors opened.
Next up for Nike and the Jordan brands holiday schedule is the Air Jordan 13 Retro with a black and red colorway, coming out Dec.13, 2014.
