Musicians prefer concert residencies this year

Viva Las Vegas! But in this case, without Lucky Jackson and Rusty Martin.

A concert residency is a series of shows performed by artist(s) at a single venue over an extended time period in Las Vegas. It is an iconic part of one’s career and a popular staple on the Vegas strip.

The popularity of concert residences was pioneered by singer-pianist Liberace along with the help of Frank Sinatra’s stellar performances in the 1940’s. Some memorable acts that changed the trajectory of performing in Sin City are Elvis Presley, Celine Dion, Britney Spears and Janet Jackson.

The surge of these concert residences has skyrocketed over the years with some leaving Sin City and arriving in places like the Big Apple. It is no longer just a cash grab or major career achievement for artists, instead it is a preference.

According to various news outlets, artists prefer concert residences over traditional touring because it gives them more creative freedom. They also enjoy a less stressful and suitable environment while maintaining a connection with their fans. Since these concert residences are performed in a popular city attracting tourists, traveling is not as hectic for artists as regular touring schedules hence why announcements for concert residences are more constant and frequent nowadays.

However, some fans have mixed feelings about concert residences. Some say that it will be more frustrating to secure tickets due to high demand so artists should tour more than one city. Others say that it is more convenient for both parties as it is cost-effective.

When COVID-19 shocked the nation, there were many restrictions when it came to touring during the pandemic so artists had no choice but to perform in limited spaces. Now, that the world is seemingly back to normal, is traditional touring going to die down as the years go by? Only time will tell.

Music’s biggest stars will take over the beloved Sin City as fans hope to cash in the opportunity to see their favorite artist in a more intimate setting. Artists such as Mariah Carey, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, The Eagles, Black Eyed Peas and Pitbull will take the stage at respective stages on selected dates in Las Vegas this year.
