Daniel Musgrave and The Do-Rite Daddys held a concert in downtown Martin on Thursday, June 6 at 7 p.m. in conjunction with Martin Community Band’s summer concert series.
The band performed the first of two summer concerts, which are to be held between Martin Community Band’s biweekly performances.
The band is comprised of three young men, Daniel Musgrave, JakeFlippin and Kyle Stout. Musgrave and Flippin are both UTM alumni.
Musgrave sings lead vocals and plays guitar and harmonica as well as writes the songs the band plays.
“I had a lot of songs written and I was playing solo; I decided I wanted a little accompaniment for recording,” Musgrave said.
“I got these guys on and it turned into a full-on band. Now, I guess it’s a real band.”
Flippin plays stand up bass while Stout plays guitar, banjo and mandolin. Musgrave started the band after he had already written several songs.
“[The songs are written] with my pen and paper from my brain,” Musgrave said.
Using several different instruments, the band performed each song with a unique sound. They consider themselves a mix of several genres. In fact, they created their own genre in which they have labeled themselves.
“We call it Blueamericanafolkrockgrass,” Flippin said.
The band charted No. 1 on iTunes under the recently added artists for one week. Their first album “A Little Less Lonely” was released in January and is available at The Looking Glass in downtown Martin and is also available online through iTunes and Amazon.
The Martin Community Band will perform a collection of circus songs on June 13 under the title “Circus Life.”
