Midnight Sun: Book Review

It has been 15 years since the release of the infamous #1 bestselling Twilight Saga series that we’ve come to love so dearly. For those of you who have waited so patiently, it’s finally here. Stephenie Meyer has released the newest edition to the Saga series, titled Midnight Sun.

As opposed to the original books, Midnight Sun tells the story of Edward and Bella’s romance and hardships through Edward’s point of view. In this novel, we can finally have some of our questions answered that Bella’s perspective could not satisfy.

Meyer explains the life that each Cullen had lived before Bella Swan entered the picture in 2005. Through this, we are able to understand each individual person and acknowledge their love and devotion for one another as a family.

As we all know, Edward has the ability to read minds. Meyer uses this to reveal the true colors of various characters throughout the story; Jessica Stanley, Mike Newton, Angela Weber and even Jacob Black. We are able to recognize Rosalie’s reasoning behind her hatred for Bella in a new light, Jasper’s importance throughout the book, Esme’s love for her children and just how ruthless the Cullen Clan is when messed with.

Meyer starts the book off where it all began – to Bella’s first days in her new home in Forks, Washington. I must admit, the novel doesn’t cross over to New Moon or any other previous novels.

I know. What a bummer.

Although we’ve all either read the books or watched the movies, we know how the story goes.

Or so you think you do.

This novel gives us a behind the scene look into the heartbreaking story that made Edward the awkward, protective and indecisive 107-year-old teenager he is. We get to witness how Bella shaped the Cullen family and how Alice’s visions of Bella’s future helped prepare the family for the new edition to the Cullen Clan.

Even though we’re only given the re-written version of the first book, it reads as a completely different story. To add the icing on the cake, Meyer has admitted that there will be more to come!
