Jaron Williams, a 6-foot-6-inch, 200-pound swingman from the College of Central Florida, has signed a National Letter of Intent to join UTM’s men’s basketball program next season.
Williams is currently playing his sophomore season at the College of Central Florida, which is located in Ocala, Florida. The Patriots are off to a 9-2 start under head coach Tim Ryan during the 2019-20 campaign.
A Rock Hill, South Carolina native, Williams leads CCF in scoring at 16.5 points per contest while also averaging 3.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.6 steals per game. He has also knocked down 78.1 percent of his attempts from the free throw line (25-of-32).
So far this season, Williams has accounted for a trio of 20-plus point performances. That includes a season-high 23 points (on 7-of-11 shooting) against South Georgia Technical College on Nov. 20. He also tallied 22 points to go along with a season-best four assists against ASA College on Nov. 3 and 20 points with season-highs of six rebounds and four steals against Indian River State College on Nov. 29.
“Jaron is a highly skilled wing who attracted a lot of attention on the recruiting trail,” Skyhawk head coach Anthony Stewart said. “He’s a hard worker who can play a variety of positions – which will fit our system perfectly. We are extremely excited to welcome Jaron to the UT Martin family.”
As a freshman, Williams averaged 7.2 points in a reserve role, sinking 48.2 percent of his field goal tries (80-for-166). He scored in double figures in 11 different games, including a pair of 20-point outings in the span of a week. Williams graduated from York Preparatory Academy, where he tossed in 25.4 points per game under head coach Frank Hamrick to help the Patriots finish 24-5 during his senior season. Williams averaged 19.0 points and 8.0 rebounds as a junior in 2016-17, helping York Pep advance to the USA National Prep Basketball National Championship. He chalked up all-area accolades in each of his final three seasons as a Patriot.
