The emo rock juggernaut My Chemical Romance (MCR) has shot back into the Billboard top 200 following the announcement of their return from an over six-year long absence.
The band, through their Instagram page, announced that they will be reuniting to perform a show at the Shrine Expo Hall in Los Angeles Dec. 20, according to Loudwire.
The last studio album released by the band was 2010’s Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. MCR was last active in May of 2013 following an announcement by lead vocalist Gerard Way on the band’s official website.
“Being in this band for the past 12 years has been a true blessing. We’ve gotten to go places we never knew we would. We’ve been able to see and experience things we never imagined possible. We’ve shared the stage with people we admire, people we look up to, and best of all, our friends. And now, like all great things, it has come time for it to end. Thanks for all of your support, and for being part of the adventure,” Way said.
However, following the band’s announcement of a return, MCR’s most popular album, 2006’s The Black Parade, has cracked Billboard’s top 200 list after a two year hiatus.
After the reveal of the Dec. 20 show in L.A., MCR also announced that they will perform in Australia, New Zealand and Japan, according to Loudwire.
Gary Holt, guitarist of heavy metal band Slayer spoke out in support of MCR’s 2006 hit album, saying, “I think every song is amazing. It’s super ambitious, and I hear shades of Queen, Pink Floyd and Cheap Trick all over it.”
Though the band will be performing again, they have not confirmed that they’re working on or releasing new music in the future.
