In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, John Goodman confirmed that Roseanne Barr’s character will be killed off.
Back in May, Barr released a racist tweet that insulted former President Barack Obama’s senior adviser Valerie Jarrett.
Within a couple of days, ABC canceled the hit television show Roseanne which had been rebooted on March 27.
Though ABC canceled the original reboot, the company still wanted to have a show running that had a connection with the hit sitcom.
In June, ABC ordered a spin-off show, called The Conners, straight-to-series.
This show would still be focused on the characters from Roseanne, but without Barr.
The big question after this announcement was, what was going to happen to Roseanne?
In his interview with The Sunday Times, Goodman was asked about his character in the spin-off show, and how he would be acting.
Goodman said, “It’s an unknown. I guess he’ll be mopey and sad because his wife’s dead.”
This is the first major confirmation dealing with Barr’s character since the announcement of The Conners.
Though this is the first real confirmation of the character, ABC has yet to officially release a statement to reveal how Barr will be written out of the show.
The only statement that the company has released is describing Barr’s exit from the show as “a sudden turn of events.”
Though Barr will not be returning to The Conners, Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson and Michael Fishman will all reprise their roles as Dan Conner, Jackie Harris, Darlene Conner-Healy, Becky Conner-Healy and D.J. Conner, respectively.
The Conners is set to premiere on ABC on Oct. 16.
