The University of Tennessee at Martin has begun a campaign for the students who reside on campus and will be returning with new items after the upcoming holiday breaks.
The “Lock It or Lose It!” campaign will be a short but helpful week with one goal in mind: Always lock your dorm doors whenever you leave.
With major winter holidays coming up, the Department of Residence Life and Housing has issued this initiative as a helpful way to keep students responsible for their belongings. With major stressors between finals and travel towards the end of the semester, it can be very easy for students to forget to lock their dorms when rushing to class. However, it is always an important step students should remember, especially during the holiday breaks when they may be away more often.
Since students can bring new items from home after Thanksgiving Break or may be receiving gifts during the Winter Break month, the Residence Life staff does not want anything a student chooses to bring from home to become missing or stolen. The “Lock It or Lose It!” Campaign will have Resident Assistants (RAs) on each floor go and check students doors to see which are left unlocked. Students will not be reprimanded for accidentally leaving a door unlocked, however they will receive a note from their RA with a helpful reminder to always lock their doors, even if leaving their dorm room for a moment.
The campaign began today, Nov. 13th, and will continue through Nov. 17th. Students have also received correspondence with more information, and are encouraged to keep valuable items received over the next month at home if they can allow it.
