Memorial service set for library director

Dr. John Russell Burch Jr., director of the Paul Meek Library from 2017-2019, died Oct. 25, 2019, after a prolonged battle with cancer.

The family will host a memorial service for Burch Nov. 10 at Campbellsville Christian Church in Campbellsville, Kentucky.

Burch came to UTM in 2017 from Campbellsville University where he was previously a professor and dean of library services. Burch also served at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Arkansas, and Cumberland College in Williamsburg, Kentucky, before coming to UTM.

“Dr. Burch was a true professional. He brought a vision to the UTM library that started with service to our students. He wanted to make the library a welcoming place for our students….comfortable, useful spaces for reading, studying and group work. I’m grateful for his time with us,” said Dr. Keith Carver, UTM chancellor.

Burch is survived by his wife and three daughters.

Burch’s family has asked that donations be made to the Paul Meek Library in lieu of flowers.
