The University of Tennessee Foundation has announced the hiring of Julius McNair, who will fill the role of UTM’s assistant athletic director for development.
McNair is no stranger to Skyhawk Athletics as the 2013 alum spent a decade at UTM as a student-athlete and an assistant football coach. He played on the Skyhawk football squad from 2008-12 before transitioning into an administrative role on the coaching staff for five seasons.
“UTM is home for me,” McNair said. “Some of the fondest memories of my life have occurred in Martin and I am excited for the opportunity to give back to my alma mater. I look forward to maintaining relationships and fostering new ones within the UTM alumni base.”
From 2014-18, McNair was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for Skyhawk football. In addition to his on-field coaching responsibilities, he also served as the program’s on-campus liaison while designing and implementing a recruiting strategy as well as arranging and organizing recruiting visits.
McNair also spent a year as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia. He was a 2019 Bill Walsh Minority Internship recipient and worked with the NFL’s Washington Football Team before continuing his coaching career as an assistant at the University of Richmond in Richmond, Virginia.
“We are thrilled to welcome Julius back here at UTM,” Skyhawk athletic director Kurt McGuffin said. “He is a highly motivated, charismatic individual who is a true leader. He has familiarity with all areas of our campus and I am confident he is going to hit the ground running.”
A Mt. Olive, Mississippi native, McNair earned his degree in business from UTM in 2013.
