It’s the most stressful season of all

We’re here folks, finals week is next week and Christmas is right around the corner.

But before we can enjoy the holiday break, we first must slay the dragon at the end of the road – final exams.

For some, this current week and the next will be tedious, exhausting and ever so stressful.

For others, it may be as simple as a walk in the quad.

But no matter the difficulty of this time period, we must never lose sight of our end goal of graduating, or even getting through this semester.

When you walk across the stage to get your degree at the tail end of your last semester, all of the exams, projects, group work, presentations and other hardships you’ve faced over the last few years will be worth the tears, stress and sleepless nights.

Soon you’ll be on your way to a, hopefully, successful career. Let this end goal give you the motivation necessary to carry on and not only survive finals week, but thrive during finals week.

We all know that this time can be stressful and trying, so remember that there are resources available to UTM students.

The Paul Meek Library, normally open to midnight on weekdays, has extended hours of operation during finals week. Despite being busy this time of year, the library is a great place to study, especially if you need somewhere quiet to go.

Another great resource for students is Student Health and Counseling Services. As students, we neglect our health physically and mentally during this time and wait until we go home. Use this resource to make sure you are okay and taking care of yourself.

A popular tradition for both the students and faculty is the the ever-anticipated Moonlight Breakfast that is being held Tuesday, Dec. 11, in the Skyhawk Dining Hall. It is a tradition for the UTM faculty and staff to join in serving the students during this late night finals breakfast. Breakfast will start at 9:30 p.m. and last until 11 p.m. The meal is free for all UTM students with their Skyhawk card; you don’t even have to have a meal plan.

Students, don’t forget to talk with friends and mentors for support. We know this time of year can be hectic but there’s always a shoulder for you to cry on. You just have to take the brave step to ask for help when you need it.

When it’s all said and done, never forget that you are more than your grades. You are not just a seat in a classroom, you aren’t just a number. You matter and have lasting importance beyond that test that didn’t go well.

We at The Pacer are here for you. We feel your stress. And we offer you a laugh by reminding you that some times, before you can celebrate the most wonderful time of year, you must survive the most stressful time of year.
