For seniors graduating this fall, there are a few things that need to be completed before walking across the stage.
Students who wish to receive their diplomas are required to meet all of the academic and general requirements indicated in the University Catalog for their respective degrees.
For transfer students, any coursework that has been completed at another college or university must be submitted by that institution in order to complete transcripts and receive credit. These transcripts must be submitted to the Office of Academic Records no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 14.
Seniors should also remember to complete the Post-Comp test and Major Field Exam if required by their major.
The Post-Comp test is one that every senior must take before graduating. Access to scheduling the test can be found on Banner or can be completed by contacting the Student Success Center.
This test is free if taken before the end of November, however taking the exam within the two weeks before graduation will result in a $5 fee.
Students who do not show up to take the Post-Comp test will be fined a $5 fee. This can be avoided by rescheduling within 24 hours of the scheduled test date.
The other test that is required for most majors is the Major Field exam. For information about that, students should contact their academic advisor.
Seniors should also make sure their advisor has records showing they are academically eligible to graduate. Even lacking one class credit can put a delay in the process.
Remember that just because students receive emails about graduation, doesn’t mean they are actually going to graduate this semester. If there are errors in Flight Plan including specified catalog year, major, concentration, minor or hours earned, the entire completion process can be upended.
Flight Plan can be accessed through Banner. Any concern for graduation eligibility can be addressed with academic advisors.
While these items on the to-do list are extremely important, there are also a few little things that need to be acquired before graduation including a black cap and gown!
On top of the academic requirements that must be completed in order to graduate, students are also concerned about packing, job searching, leases and the preparation for life outside of college.
We, atĀ The Pacer, encourage all students to have a plan, or at least an outline of one, before leaving UTM.
It’s easy to forget about things when the end is so close.Ā As graduation and finals grow near, seniors should complete each item on the checklist to ensure that everyone is graduating on time.
