Fast-paced action makes it way to the big screen in the Divergent sequel, Insurgent.
Insurgent picks up immediately where its predecessor, Divergent, left us. Tris, played by Shailene Woodley, has pitched a tent with the citizens of Amity faction, a people known for their kindness and love for every living thing. Along with the other surviving Divergents, Tris plans an attack on the evil overlords who discourage individuality and have led the entire community into a poverty state ruled by Martial law. It is up to this select group of individuals to save the world and end the tyrannical system that poses a threat to all things good.
The casting is top notch and by far the best aspect of the movie. Both Shailene Woodley and Miles Teller play their roles with conviction and focus, keeping the emotion alive on screen during numerous scenes that would lack it without them. Combine this with an impressive supporting cast that includes Octavia Spencer, Naomi Watts and Kate Winslet as the chief villain, which makes a recipe for the year’s biggest blockbuster.
Insurgent is by no means lacking action. Both fans of the book and the previous film will enjoy Insurgent, despite the flaws that some might point out.
