As Greek Life at UTM continues to adjust to the new normal, IFC (Interfraternity Council) recruitment is taking on a different look this year. Instead of having a traditional season of recruiting, all IFC chapters have adopted a year-round recruiting model.
Due to the effects of COVID-19 restrictions, in person recruiting events have been cancelled and replaced by a ‘365’ recruiting model. This decision was made after leadership noticed a spike in cases on the UTM campus during the first week of classes.
“Holding in person recruiting events just wasn’t feasible during the beginning of the semester,” said Chris Gunlefinger, IFC Advisor. “With the restrictions placed on student organizations and the health concerns, we decided that moving to a 365 recruiting model was best for everyone, and our IFC leadership agreed.”
Even still, IFC recruitment has seen a decent amount of pledges already this fall. With the average number of recruits over the past few years at 80, Gunlefinger is optimistic with the 70 they have received so far this fall.
“It’s a little below average,” said Gunlefinger. However, the IFC is optimistic about still having a successful year despite the challenges they are facing.
For anyone interested in going through IFC recruitment this year, simply reach out to Chris Gunlefinger (cgunlefi@utm.edu) or any IFC recruitment officers. With the new 365 recruiting model, students are encouraged to join at any time during the academic year.
Students should know that even though they are joining in the midst of a pandemic, IFC is still finding ways to engage hybridly and that they are still finding new and creative ways to continue traditions of working with Nonprofits. While other experiences, like homecoming and traditional large in person gatherings are cancelled, students will still have quality experiences and be challenged to be the best they can be.
Along with the IFC, all student organizations and Greek Life continue to be affected by the COVID-19 Pandemic. For more information and UTM COVID updates, visit https://www.utm.edu/alerts/corona/.
