Hypnotizing UTM: Student Activities Council brings back Dale K

The Student Activities Council (SAC) brought back hypnotist Dale K for a showing at 9:09 p.m. on March 28.

Dale began the show by asking the audience to write an actor, a verb and a place on three separate sheets of paper and place them in a box; this would later come into play for Dale’s final act.

He then explained that the hypnosis that he will perform on volunteers is all based on their imagination and how relaxed they allow their bodies to be. He explained how the hypnosis would work and reassured the audience that he isn’t controlling the volunteers but instead would make their minds so relaxed that they would use their imagination to believe what he asked them.

Dale picked 15 students out of the audience to participate as volunteers. Throughout the night, he would make volunteers go back to their seat if they weren’t as cooperative with the hypnosis process as others were. By the end of the night, he had 12 people remaining on the stage.

The students acted out different scenarios when under hypnosis. They went from being so relaxed in their chairs that they were laid over each other, to smelling a smell that wasn’t there and even petting an animal that they’ve always wanted to pet. The audience was left in awe after every act Dale entranced the volunteers with.

The finale brought everyone in the audience to their feet after Dale brought up another audience member on stage to pull out the three pieces of paper from the beginning of the show. The student read out what was on the papers and they said: Oprah, eating pizza and Dunkin Donuts.

Dale then asked her to check his Instagram where he had posted a picture two days before of Oprah, eating pizza with a Dunkin Donuts logo in the corner. The crowd roared with applause and ended the show with a standing ovation.

Audrey Adams, a sophomore Secondary English major from Union City, said, “Going into the show I was expecting more of a magic act, but Dale exceeded my expectations. This experience makes me want to attend more SAC events.”

Anna Barnes, a junior Communications major from Martin who has attended one of Dale’s shows before, said, “Each time I come to his show, I am more impressed than the last.”

The students left with smiles on their faces and the volunteers with looks of confusion.
