Four days after capping off a highly successful weekend against a pair of opponents, UTM junior Abbie Hopkins was rewarded with two Eastern College Athletic Conference Rider of the Week awards today.
The Seekonk, Massachusetts native earned ECAC weekly accolades in both fences and flat after securing a perfect 4-0 weekend in those categories. Hopkins was crowned with MOP honors three times during that span, winning that title in fences against No. 6 SMU last Thursday before claiming top status in both fences and flat against SUNY New Paltz on Friday.
In fences, Hopkins averaged 86.0 points last week – winning by an average of 7.5 points in the two competitions. She entered a three-way tie for the team lead in most wins (three) in that event while solely taking over the team lead in MOP’s (two).
Hopkins’ 75.5 scoring average in flat was good enough for a pair of convincing victories, as she won by an average of 9.5 points last week. She generated her team-best sixth and seventh wins of the season and second MOP of the 2019-20 campaign in that event.
On the season, Hopkins is averaging an identical 75.1 scoring average in both flat and fences.
Today’s announcement marks the fifth ECAC weekly honor won by Hopkins this season, as she also swept fences and flat accolades on Sept. 25 before earning flat honors again on Nov. 19. Overall, four different UTM riders have combined to take home 10 ECAC weekly awards in 2019-20.
