Here’s how being ‘very demure’ got trendy

Almost every day, there is a new trend which causes society to hop on the wave before it dies down. In this case, it’s a catchphrase that has got the world in a frenzy. This term has people questioning themselves if they are acting very ‘demure’, ‘mindful, or even ‘cutesy’. How did this get popularized overnight?

All it took was a simple TikTok video of Jools Lebron explaining how women like herself should wear their makeup, dress for an interview, and various things that she wouldn’t do when interviewing while entering the professional field. Being ‘very demure’ took the world by storm without Lebron even realizing how big it would blow up across different media platforms including X (formerly known as Twitter), Instagram, Snapchat and also Facebook. Millions of people (including celebrities) around the world included the phrase in videos causing it to even make it to the White House in a matter of time.

The word ‘demure’ means to be reserved, modest and shy. It is typically used to give compliments on a woman’s appearance, style or the way she holds herself up due to the amount of confidence she may have. ‘Demure’ has now become a part of most individuals’ vocabulary which is a good thing because it allows people to expand their vocabulary.

However, the constant use of the word can over time can get annoying. A twitter user expressed, “Very demure, very cutesy is the most annoying phrase trend. I physically cringe every time I hear it.”

One thing that has stood out to people other than the word itself is one of the many statements that Lebron used. “A lot of you girls go to the interview looking like Marge Simpson and go to the job looking like Patty and Selma. Not demure,” he said. This has people rethinking their dress attire for work.

Lebron has even taken being demure to her first TV debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Although it was revealed shortly after her appearance that someone has filed a trademark for her famous catchphrase without her permission, she will forever be credited to the world as being very mindful, very demure.
