‘Good Morning Martin:’ is it really?

Good Morning Martin (GMM), an online magazine that features stories and news surrounding Martin, has a website that could use some work in the grammar department, but is overall well-executed.

On their homepage, the magazine features a pretty, sunset aerial view of downtown Martin that greets visitors with a sense of warm comfort. Below the picture is a handy little paragraph describing what GMM is all about.

The bottom of the homepage features a gallery of well-shot pictures of Martin buildings and winter scenery.

From here, visitors have easy access links to the “Martin Eats”, “Martin Shops”, “Magazine”, “Shop” and “Connect” pages.

Generally speaking, GMM’s website is user-friendly and fairly easy to navigate.

The “Martin Eats” page is a catalog of virtually every restaurant in Martin, from locally owned restaurants like The Grind, The Hearth, Sammie’s, Cadillac’s and so on. The page is split into two categories – locally owned restaurants and chain restaurants.

The “Martin Shops” is all about local shops. This page lists practically any store you can find in the community and is a handy guide if you ever feel like shopping local.

All sorts of different stories can be found on the “Magazine” page. Story topics range from sports, event coverage and general quirks about the community.

However, here is where I run into my sole gripe with the website. Upon reading some of these stories, I’ve noticed that there are several grammar errors. These errors aren’t severe, but they can become jarring and slow down reading, but this is nothing that some careful copy editing can’t solve.

The “Shop” and “Connect” pages are pretty self-explanatory. Visitors can buy merchandise ranging from long sleeve shirts to mugs. Contact information can be found by simply heading over to the “Connect” page.

The design of the website is overall inviting, easy to digest and aesthetically pleasing.

From a photography standpoint, I really like all of the pictures on display, and it sets the tone for the site as a whole.

From a public relations standpoint, the site does a great job in giving Martin a cozy, small-town feel that I can really jive with.

With some careful editing, I can see a lot of promise coming from GMM.
