It’s getting to be that time of year again at UTM, election time.
Every year, UTM’s Student Government Association (SGA) holds their general election in the latter half of the spring semester. Practically every position in SGA is up for grabs.
The positions up for election include, but are not limited to, the Executive Council, which consists of the president, vice president and secretary general, the press secretary, senate seats, justice positions and more.
The Pro-Student Party will be making a return for this year’s election, with current President Devin Majors, a junior Political Science major from Nashville, running for reelection.
Unlike last year, the Executive Council positions will go uncontested, as there aren’t any opposing parties vying for these spots.
We at The Pacer encourage all UTM students to go out and participate in the election process, regardless of whether you attend UTM’s main campus or a satellite campus.
SGA creates and proposes legislation that will affect every student who attends UTM.
Whether it be a smoking ban on campus or allocating funds elsewhere, SGA does play a role in the lives of students.
SGA is the main liaison between the students and administration, so why not go out and decide who would be the best fit?
Seeing as all of the Executive Council positions are uncontested, it is even more important for students to go to the poles. If you are dissatisfied with the candidates on offer, you can express this frustration with a write-in ballot.
Elections take place from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. on April 2 in the University Center and online.
Make your voice heard, Skyhawks.
