UTM appeared in the National Collegiate Equestrian Association Farnam team rankings for the 10th time this season, checking in at No. 10 today in the first poll of the spring semester.
The Skyhawks earned a spot in the poll nine of 10 weeks during the fall, including seven consecutive weeks to close out the 2019 calendar year. UTM rose as high as No. 9 during the Nov. 12 edition of the NCEA poll and has been slotted in at 10th in all of its other nine rankings this season.
The Skyhawks account for a 2-3 record so far this season, facing a difficult schedule that featured ranked opponents in four of their five competitions. UTM boasts wins against then-No. 10 Delaware State (11-9 on Oct. 11), South Dakota State (9-8 on Oct. 10) as well as a 13-11 exhibition victory at Miami of Ohio on Oct. 4.
All three of the Skyhawk setbacks during the fall took place against current top-four squads (17-1 to Auburn on Sept. 19; 14-4 to Oklahoma State on Sept. 20; 15-4 at South Carolina on Nov. 15).
Auburn comes in at No. 1 in this week’s Farnam team rankings and is followed by No. 2 Oklahoma State, No. 3 Georgia, No. 4 South Carolina, No. 5 Texas A&M, No. 6 Fresno State, No. 7 TCU, No. 8 SMU, No. 9 Baylor and No. 10 UTM.
The Skyhawks open their spring schedule this week when they travel to Fresno, California, to take on UC Davis on Friday, Feb. 7, and No. 6 Fresno State on Saturday, Feb. 8.
